Learning Communication Skills Through the Arts (Year
Two and beyond) Learning Communication
Skills Through the Arts (Year Two) is bringing appropriate music, dance, dramatic play
and visual arts activities to 432 Head Start (ages 3-5) children from low income, rural
families in Lycoming, Clinton and Montour Counties. Teacher
training and parent involvement will insure that use of these activities continues to
improve communication skills of young children into the future. By employing different
artists in different Head Start Centers, this second year will help to demonstrate program
worth and make for interesting comparisons with the Year One results. In addition, funding is
being sought to launch a PA-wide Communication Skills project into six of the
eleven Pennsylvania Arts in Education Partner regions.
An international expansion is likely as Ruth Churchill Dower has written
“London and Yorkshire are two regions, which are looking to work with you on a
Communication Project international exchange.” |
